For more than 20 years, human rights defender Mary Kini has been working to assist victims and survivors of sorcery-related violence and violence against women and girls in the Papua New Guinea highlands, often at significant personal risk.
Mary Kini is a co-founder of Kup Women for Peace and is widely recognized as a leading voice within the Highlands Human Rights Defenders Movement in Papua New Guinea, advocating for the protection and rights of women and girls.
She is a pioneer of the Regional Training Program on Gender, Violence Against Women and Girls and Human Rights, developed by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, and has played an important role in strengthening community-based responses to violence.
